Tye Grant is President of the Police Foundation of Kansas City and a retired Major with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. During his 26-year law enforcement career, he led KCPD’s Violent Crimes Division and held leadership roles in investigations, patrol, training, media relations, and tactical enforcement. He is passionate about strengthening Kansas City through innovation, collaboration, and strategic investments that support KCPD and the community it serves.

As FIFA World Cup 2026™ brings the world to Kansas City, much of the attention is on the matches, visitors, celebrations, and energy across our city. Behind the scenes, years of preparation are now being put into action. Hosting one of the world’s largest sporting events requires more than short-term planning. It requires long-term investment in technology, equipment, coordination, and personnel. Much of that work has been underway for years, supported in part by donors to the Police Foundation of Kansas City.

Building the Foundation for a Global Event

Long before the first match of the World Cup kicked off, the Police Foundation helped support investments that strengthened KCPD’s operational capabilities.

In the last three years, our donor-funded initiatives included:

  • Technology enhancements, including servers, storage, and network improvements
  • Real-time data-sharing tools such as Peregrine
  • Expanded investigative analysts 

These investments are essential during events when critical information is shared, coordination is required, and key decisions are made.

Equipping Officers During the World Cup

With the support of QuikTrip Corporation and other community partners, the Police Foundation funded:

  • 6 armored vehicles for dignitary and VIP secure transports
  • Medical kits for every officer deployed throughout the city
  • Specialized coal fire extinguishers for fireworks and pyrotechnic-related incidents
  • 2 Utility Task Vehicles that support KCPD during major events

These investments will continue to support KCPD after the World Cup. Thank you QuikTrip. 

Expanding Response Capabilities

KCPD is also relying on flexible command and response tools as the city manages the demands of a global event.

The addition of a new KCPD Mobile Command Post this spring, provided by the Police Foundation*, enables real-time communications, coordinated response, and effective decision-making wherever needed, from the World Cup to other critical operations.

The Foundation has also supported KCPD’s Drones  as First Responder technology. Today, a coordinated fleet of drones supports situational awareness across Kansas City, with a mobile drone nest available to extend coverage wherever operational needs arise.

A Lasting Legacy for Kansas City

The World Cup will eventually leave Kansas City. The investments made to prepare for it will not. Years of preparation, investments now in action, because everyone wants to feel safe. 

That is the role of the Police Foundation of Kansas City: helping provide strategic resources that strengthen KCPD’s capabilities and prepare Kansas City for what’s next.
